As the end of summer is nearly upon us and retailers rush to bring in the newest trends for fall, it provides an amazing opportunity to stock up on terrific sales on outgoing summer merchandise. Take for instance my recently acquired one piece ruffle bathing suit from The Gap which I picked up for a steal of a deal at $14.99. Everyone knows bathing suits can be tricky, but both the fit of this suit and the subtle grey color made me think I could actually appear in daylight in it without converting to Islam for the duration of the summer pool season. Emboldened by my initial success and the recently marked down prices, I made a second loop by the swim wear rack to see if my luck would hold. I will preface the next part of this by saying I haven’t worn a two piece in about twelve years. A combination of booze, babies and an aversion to anything that will make me sweat closed the proverbial two-piece door years ago. However, as I perused the sale aisles I did spy a turquoise rick rack two piece that was too cute to be ignored. Wondering if the sales person was snickering behind my back, I asked to try it on. The bottoms, which were a boy short cut, were ok. The top, a triangle string bikini, would have been ok if it had about three feet of fabric attached under the boob area to cover my white flabby fish belly. Despite its cuteness, off of my body that is, I was ready to burn it in effigy, until I noticed the price tag. The total for the top and bottom together came to less than a grande mocha latte at Starbucks. At that price I decided I could suck it up, both literally and figuratively, and maybe use this as motivation to hit the deck instead of the drive-through.

So Princesses, be brave, think ahead, and cut yourselves some slack. These end of summer super sales may provide the perfect item(s) to help you just say no to the Christmas eggnog in favor of the elliptical. And if not, you can probably sell them on e-bay for more than you paid for them.
